ASTM D6224 In-Service Auxiliary Plant Oils

ASTM D6224 is the practice for in-service monitoring of lubricating oil in auxiliary power-plant equipment. It is the companion to ASTM D4378, which covers the mineral oil in the generating turbine itself. D6224 is a monitoring practice: sampling, test slate, and action levels for the auxiliaries — not a single bench method.

Keep the two practices apart. A boiler-feed pump, fan, or compressor does not inherit the turbine-oil condemn schedule, and the turbine charge does not inherit the auxiliary schedule. D6224 is also not a transformer-oil or DGA document. Alarm limits that are built from plant data rather than copied from a table belong with ASTM D7720.
