ASTM D6082 High-Temperature Foaming

ASTM D6082 is the test method for high-temperature foaming characteristics of lubricating oils. It sits next to ASTM D892, which covers foam at the lower Sequence temperatures. D6082 asks how much foam forms — and how long it lasts — when the oil is hotter than a D892 bath.

Lubricant specifications for engines, hydraulics, and circulating systems often require both methods. An oil that looks quiet at 24 °C or 93.5 °C can still foam when the service temperature is higher. The method reports foam tendency and foam stability; it does not diagnose the additive package that caused the foam.
